Missed toll houston8/12/2023 And the only part that is pay-by-mail is the part of the Grand Parkway from I-10 in Katy to I-69 in Kingwood. The TxDOT toll roads are the only ones in the Houston area that allow pay-by-mail if you don’t have an existing toll account or pay by cash. If it’s a HCTRA toll road, first-time violators may be eligible for a fee reduction, usually in the form of paying either just the toll owed, or the toll plus a processing fee. Some booth operators shut down earlier than that.ĭriving on a toll lane without payment could result in a violation invoice. But cash payment isn’t an option for those traveling late at night - on the west side of the tollway, it’s electronic-only from 11:30 p.m. Houston’s toll roads all take electronic payments, and a select few portions of Sam Houston Tollway accept cash. 31, according to Houston Chronicle transportation reporter Dug Begley. Grand Parkway toll rates are slated to go up in price in 2020 after the Texas Transportation Commission approved new rates on Oct. Tags with a reciprocal agreement are also eligible: Kansas, Oklahoma and Dallas’ tags work around here. TxTag, the state’s electronic toll tag, and EZ Tag, Houston’s toll tag, work on all the toll roads around the area. You can find the rates for the Texas Department of Transportation’s portions of Grand Parkway, Harris County Toll Road Authority and the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority on each agency’s website. A three-axle vehicle would pay $11.75 regardless of payment form. If you’re paying with cash, that’ll be $5.75. The cost also goes up if you drive a vehicle with more than two axles or hitch a trailer to your vehicle.įor instance, if you get on Sam Houston Tollway at the Fallbrook Drive on-ramp in a two-axle sedan and got off the tollway at Hillcroft Avenue with an electronic tag, you owe $5.10. On toll roads that accept cash or pay-by-mail, you may pay 5 to 25 cents more per checkpoint for not using one of the electronic tags. You pay the sum of charges for whatever distance you go.Įach toll authority sets its own rates, and there are different rates for people paying with something other than an electronic toll tag. Tolls are calculated by sensors at on-ramps, checkpoints and off-ramps. To enable toll avoidance, you must tap “Driving and Navigation” and then “Avoid Tolls.”ĭepends on how far you go, how you’re paying and what vehicle you’re driving. Inside space shuttle enterprise8/12/2023 And for a certain glory-centric definition of shuttle, that's true. The Enterprise is sometimes dismissed as a lesser museum artifact due to the fact that it is not a "real" shuttle. Still, you might hardly notice given all the excitement of being inside a space shuttle. The inside is mostly stripped aside from structural elements, curator Eric Boehm told us, which gives it a surprisingly cavernous feel for a shuttle that is normally crammed with stuff. The Intrepid's summer volunteers get a single tour of the interior as a perk. Visitors aren't allowed anywhere inside the shuttle, which is closed to everyone except select staff and employees responsible for maintaining and restoring it (plus the occasional visiting astronaut dignitary). The Enterprise also bears some scars from its last move, when a worker rapped on some of the tiles on the port-side landing gear door and cracked them. When they tried shooting the same foam at Enterprise's stronger fiberglass tiles and the tiles still took damage, they knew they were on the right track. At the time, investigators suspected that the breakup started when a piece of foam separated from Columbia's external tank and struck its delicate (and expensive) leading-edge carbon-carbon tiles. Up close, visitors can see the leading edge where NASA borrowed tiles from the Enterprise to figure out why Columbia broke apart on re-entry in 2003. Its first flight took place on February 18, 1977, mated with a modified Boeing 747 called the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, and NASA tried releasing the shuttle to study its fall for the first time on August 12.įurther Reading The audacious rescue plan that might have saved space shuttle Columbia The Enterprise was never outfitted for space because it was used mostly in approach and landing tests to see how a shuttle would fall back to the ground (the last two flights without a tail cone) as well as launch pad testing. It uses fiberglass tiles on the leading-edge panels where the shuttle gets the hottest on re-entry instead of the reinforced carbon-carbon required to withstand 2,300✯ temperatures. The Enterprise's skin is more like that of a plane, with polyurethane foam tiles to simulate the surface of actual shuttles. Eventually, NASA figured out that the best dorsal surface material for shuttles entering and leaving space was a variety of blankets, some made from Nomex felt and others from quilted surface material. The shuttle's skin is also not space-ready. But since the Enterprise has always been Earth-bound, it has nothing but covered holes. A shuttle should be speckled with reaction control system thrusters to help maintain or change its orientation in space. Where a shuttle's $40 million engines should be, the Enterprise has mere mockups, covered by a cone for aerodynamic purposes. Like the USS Enterprise it's named after, the Enterprise shuttle is more or less fake. Mamp pro total max virutal hosts8/12/2023 While most tutorials on how to set up Vagrant / VVV show how clearly easy it is, my experience was anything but… I followed along installing the necessary components and ran my first Vagrant up – and nothing. But matching dev environments is the first reason on most Why Vagrant articles, and I just took it away. MAMP doesn’t allow for much configuration either, so perhaps this is a draw. As long as the server is hitting the WordPress minimum requirements, maybe it doesn’t matter. I still to this day don’t know if a site would run differently on PHP 5.5 vs 5.6. The differences between environments never actually crossed my mind, because it never seemed to actually matter. Perhaps I should have, but every WordPress site I’ve built has worked fine no matter what production environment they ended up in. It also comes with the ability to alter that configuration, but I never took the time to do so. VVV is a Vagrant configuration specifically designed for WordPress and comes with a default configuration. In practice, however, I don’t really need this. One of the most compelling arguments for switching to Vagrant is that it allows a developer to set up a virtual environment that matches exactly the final production server configurations. Matching development and production environments Well, a few months ago I switched back to MAMP Pro. But hey, it’s the price of progress I thought. Yes, Vagrant took a long time to launch every morning, and even longer to shut down at night. While the initial setup wasn’t as smooth they said it would be, I was very excited to be learning some new tricks, using the command line, and being part of, well, the cool developer crowd. After (quite a) few initial hiccups, I had a Vagrant environment up and running, with VVV to manage WordPress. My Twitter feed was overflowing with Vagrant awesomeness and tutorials on how to set it up. Quite a few influential developers were making the switch. At the time it was the trendy thing to do, and still is I’d presume. Like a lot of folks, a few years back I switched my local WordPress development environment from MAMP Pro to Vagrant / VVV. Especially learning new development tools. Yes, it can be overwhelming, but for me it is also rewarding. New code specifications, design trends, device capabilities, programming languages, API integrations… Wait, did I say rewarding? Can visit my.mamp, but not wordpress. One of the most rewarding things about web development is that it’s always changing. Is there a trick to doing sub-folders for hosts? I really need this as with wordpress, the Base URL is set as wordpress.mu, therefore an IP or a random hostname doesn't work- I need it to be wordpress.mu. I have tried visiting 172.12.123.13/wordpress-mu, but tha IP just points to MAMP/htdocs. Same deal with my.mamp/wordpress-mu in the hosts files AND in the browser. Yet when I visit wordpress.mu nothing happens, it says internet explorer can't display the page. In my hosts file on the WINDOWS part, I add: This is because I edited \etc\hosts to reflect 172.12.123.13 my.mamp, the 172 being my v8net IP. The dummy 'Hello World' file that I created shows up. Now, when I go to windows, I can access my.mamp just fine. The files for my.mamp are in Users/ME/Sites/my.mamp, and the wordpress mu stuff is in Users/ME/Sites/my.mamp/wordpress-mu. That all works, and on my mac's browsers I can visit either of these domains. I have changed a whole bunch of stuff in OS X (etc/hosts/, nf) so that my new 'domains' for my MAMP stuff is 'my.mamp' and 'wordpress.mu', running on ports Apache:80 / MySQL:3306. I am trying to access my wordpress mu installation from my windows XP Internet Explorer, which is a sub-folder in my MAMP php files. Laundry decor ideas8/12/2023 It becomes a beautiful room rather than a transient space to do chores in. Putting a rug down in your laundry room not only warms it up, but it makes the zone feel less utilitarian. But by putting down a rug or runner, you take the first step in warming up this zone. Laundries can often feel so cold and sterile a forgotten zone you just dump clothes in. But it does give you a good idea of the impact you can make with wallpaper. See how Kresswell Interiors have done it above? I’m loving! And I know this isn’t one of the removable wallpapers, and it might not be your style. This peel-on-peel-off stuff makes wallpaper a lot less scary to experiment with, and it also makes it a genius idea for renters who want to jazz up their laundry room. Luxe Walls is a good local brand I’ve used in the past so give them a go if you want to ease into it. You know, peel-on-peel-off types of paper that won’t leave any damage underneath. They’re actually super chic now.Īnd here’s the even better news: there are numerous brands creating easy-to-remove wallpaper. But there’s really no need to be! Today’s wallpapers are not the garish nightmare varieties of the seventies and eighties. I know I try and push wallpaper onto you all the time, and I know you’re fearful. I’ve used this on walls in client homes before and it’s a stunner. A colour like Dulux Domino is an ideal choice here if you’re after a dark charcoal tone. I call this a low-risk experiment and I absolutely suggest you give it a go.īut trust me (and the picture above via thegreeneyedgirl proves it), taking your walls in a darker direction will make your laundry room a design destination. If it totally backfires and you hate the colour, at least it’s a small and easy fix that won’t cost an arm and a leg to rewind. If you love the result, it you can try it in a larger room in your home and spread the magic from there. So why not get adventurous in the laundry room first? lt’s also usually the smallest room in your home. The reason I say to do it in the laundry room though, is because this isn’t a zone everyone is going to see. I know, this seems obvious, and every magazine suggests paint as a cheap way to revamp a room. Because who wants to be washing dirty undies in a room that looks like a dog’s dinner? Not me! Hopefully you can get some inspo to make your own laundry room amazing too. We’re simply looking at what we have and making the most of it through some smaller fixes. And things that are very much not reno-related. We’re talking stuff you can do yourself, for the most part. And if you know me, you know I like to style every pocket of my home within an inch of its life.Īll of the ideas I’m going to share with you below are really budget friendly. In my previous rental home, the laundry was more of a cupboard hidden under the stairs a dark and dreary hole in the wall with little opportunity to style. Nothing excited me more when I moved into my new home (apart from the mortgage!), than realising I had my very own laundry room. Well, you’ve hit the right blog post today because I have loads of inspo for you! This levels up your laundry game and since the space will now be fab, why not make sure it’s well lit so you can enjoy it.After some cheap laundry room design ideas? You know, making this zone look stylish without breaking the bank. I can’t tell you how many things get ruined in a dryer because they shouldn’t be there in the first place. Anything to add interest to the walls and remove the mundane feeling that so many laundry rooms are known for. This can be a peel and stick option that you can apply yourself if you have the patience of Job□ Or install tile. You can also paint your existing if it’s solid wood. Update the cabinets and go for a fun color. Leave the washer and dryer in their existing space If you can as that saves the budget. Because this morning I folded five loads of laundry and put them away!! You know my feelings about doing laundry so I’m patting myself on the back while pondering when my own laundry room will be as fab as our #nwdprojectwinelovers Here’s some quick tips to level up your own laundry: 1. Joplin missouri tornado recovery8/12/2023 It has provided crisis counseling to over 21,000 people who said they had never sought mental health help before, according to the center. Healing Joplin still operates, serving 195,000 people in the Joplin area over the last eight years. The Ozark Center program, Healing Joplin, is now a national model used by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for how a smaller community can provide mental health services after a major disaster, said Vicky Mieseeler, chief administrative officer at the Ozark Center. McCullough and others at the Ozark Center realized their city of 50,000, didn’t have enough counseling help to handle the wave of people traumatized by the storm, leading them to train those without proper mental health backgrounds to provide emotional support to those who didn’t need clinical help, but someone to listen and provide emotional support. The tornado flattened 13 miles and destroyed 8,000 buildings. John’s Regional Medical Center was on fire. Six minutes after the seventh deadliest tornado in the U.S. As a mobile crisis counselor, McCullough was used to providing mental health counseling after deadly events, but nothing on this scale. Within an hour of the tornado striking Joplin, McCullough began working with the Ozark Center, a nonprofit mental health center. Glass cut his feet as he ran down from the second floor apartment. “This one had more of a grinding noise because of all the cars that were in there hitting one another.” “It’s like a freight train,” said McCullough about the 2011 tornado that destroyed a third of the homes in Joplin, Missouri. Stephen McCullough grabbed his cellphone to call his mom in case he survived one of the deadliest tornadoes in history, and his wallet in case his corpse needed identification.
